The most prestigious prize in mathematics, the Feild medal which was won by a Cambridge professor has been stolen in Brazil.
Professor Caucher Birkar came to the UK as a refugee from Iran. He was one of the four people that were honoured for their contributions to mathematics.
Minutes later the 14 carat gold medal had gone missing.
According to report, he left it together with his wallet and phone in a briefcase on a table at the convention centre as he quickly alerted the security agency on ground. They found the man’s case but the medal, wallet and phone were all gone.
